Catalogue

Dear Customers,
The price catalogue for MSD medicines and hospital supplies is available. It contains 854 items; out of these are 28 or 3% new items that have been added in order to meet your demands.

Prices of 535 items or 63% remain unchanged where as prices of 132 items reflecting 22% had their prices lowered down in order to uphold MSD’s mission of accessing quality medicines to the Tanzanian population at affordable prices.

However 132 items or 15% have their prices insignificantly increased in order to recover importation costs and operating expenses.  The catalogue also has 217 items that are shown in yellow pages and will be phased away due to declining demand from the health sector.

At end of the catalogue there are green pages that show pharmacological categorization of medicines

We are encouraging you to adhere to a 14 days prior ordering system so that MSD gets ample time to consolidate your order and ensure better service. Budget based ordering will continue to be our important tool in assisting us on stock holding capacity and ultimately serving you better.

What is Medical Stores Department (MSD)
The Medical Stored Department (MSD) is an autonomous Government department under the Ministry of Health established by Parliament Act number 13 of 1993.

Following are selected topics and procedures that an MSD customer should understand;

Normal Order
These are orders raised according to MSD catalogue items;

  • A customer fills a form (CRINs) available at MSD.
  • The filled-in form must be signed by an authorized officer from the health facility.
  • Government hospitals utilize funds allocated to MSD by the Government. For NGO hospitals and others goods are sold against direct payment i.e. cash or bankers cheque

Only an authorized person by the health facility and known to MSD and issued with specified ID will collect medical supplies from MSD

Special Procurement Orders
These are items required by a customer but do not fall under MSD Catalogue;

  • The customer writes a letter to MSD, giving clear specifications of his/her requirements.  MSD may assist in developing specifications if required to do so on behalf of the customer.
  • Upon receipt of the specifications, MSD will communicate with suppliers and determine all the costs associated with procuring the items and finally notify the customer.
  • If the customer accepts the costs, he/she will be required either to pay in advance or commit himself/herself that he will pay the said costs before MSD confirms the order.

The order will be processed and upon arrival of the items, the customer will be notified to collect the same at the nearest MSD distribution zonal store.
MSD requires our esteemed customers on special procurement to prepare and consolidate their orders and bring them to MSD for processing in order to reduce cost of ordering and get away with other inconveniences.

Emergency Orders
These are catalogue items of which their demand exceed normal MSD forecasted requirement during the business period due to unexpected increase in usage;

  • MSD orders the products under emergency terms.
  • Customers will be informed of the status of the items ordered.
